Where Time Stands Still<\/h3>

Portico di Romagna arose along the ancient road leading to Florence<\/strong>, already famous in Roman times as a place of markets and later as a castle belonging to the Counts Guidi of Dovadola<\/strong>.<\/p>

Since 1386<\/strong>, the Florentine<\/strong> Republic<\/strong> chose Portico as the capital of its Romagna territories.<\/p>

The village largely retains its medieval appearance, divided into three levels: the upper part with the castle and the parish church; the middle part with the noble palaces from the 13th and 14th centuries that hosted noble families from Romagna and Tuscany seeking refuge due to political conflicts; and finally, the lower part with the houses of artisans and the common people.<\/p>

The Church of the Compagnia<\/strong> houses a wooden painting attributed to the painter Lorenzo di Credi<\/strong> (1465-1537).<\/p>

San Benedetto in Alpe is located at the confluence of three streams, among which the famous Acquacheta that gives life to the beautiful homonymous waterfall. There is the age-old Benedictine Abbey, founded by the monks of Cluny, where he stopped in the eleventh San Romualdo before founding Camaldoli, for centuries the destination of pilgrimages and retreats.
